Relationship violence is when someone uses power or control to make a romantic partner feel hurt, scared, or humiliated. It is usually a pattern of this behavior that is used to get someone to do what another person wants. Love should not involve control, fear, or intimidation.
Why Speak Out?
Relationship violence can cause physical injury, emotional harm, and interfere with school performance. The targets of relationship violence maybe unable to identify that they are in a violent relationship or may be afraid to report the abuse. Targets may try to change their partner, but experience shows this almost never works. Violence in relationship usually escalates with short-term cycles of apologies and promises of change.
The presence of relationship violence at school can cause physical and emotional harm to the students involved or others. You deserve an environment that is free from intimidation, fear, and violence.
